Dec 24, 2018

In 2018, fashion got over itself.

It let its guard down, changed into something less stuffy (sneakers, streetwear) and ventured into territories it had looked down on for decades. That translated to catering to more customers in the name of inclusivity, offering more access to the brand to show authenticity and going all in on digital, despite any former hangups about turning off traditional customers. Brands also introduced styles long synonymous with streetwear and retired the traditional fashion calendar in favor of the more excitement-charged drop model. And they joined forces with former nemeses, including rental and resale companies, seeing them as opportunities for reaching new, modern customers.

Yesterday’s strict fashion rules no longer apply. With that in mind, here’s our third annual guide to what’s in and out in the fashion industry, for 2019.
