The Changemakers: The disruptors driving values-based industry evolution

Aaron Rose Philip
Model

Fashion model Aaron Rose Philip’s career took off this year, with appearances on the runways of Moschino and Collina Strada and the covers of Paper and V magazines. After publishing a memoir in 2014 about growing up with cerebral palsy, Philip began pursuing a career in modeling, booking her first runway gig for Willie Norris Workshop through social media. She’s now one of the most high-profile disabled models in the business and one of the few transgender models to be represented by a major modeling agency, Community New York.

In the years since your career started, do you feel the fashion industry has gotten any better about representation on the runway?

“In the almost 5 years I’ve worked as a professional fashion model, starting as a teenager and now being an adult, fashion has made tremendous strides in featuring a wider array of talent of different backgrounds on the runway. However, there is so much more work to do and more talent to uplift always — especially in terms of disabled representation on the runways of luxury brands. I’m proud of and immensely grateful for the support of my agency and agents.”

You’ve done a lot in a short time. Any specific career goals you’re working toward?

“I’ve yet to book the covers of i-D, Vogue, Dazed, POP Magazine, Self Service or Re-Edition. To work for any of those clients would be my dream realized. It’s time to see disabled talent claim space in fashion. I would also love to do more campaign work for luxury brands, and getting to work with beauty brands would be really special.”
