This profile is part of the Glossy Pop Guide to Influencer-Founded Brands, covering the fashion, beauty and wellness companies started by people who built their careers on social media.  More from the series →

Among the first male beauty gurus, Manuel Guiterrez’s career took off in 2017 when he became the first male face of Maybelline. Guiterrez grew up watching his mother apply makeup, which inspired him to break into the makeup industry. He started his YouTube channel in 2014 under his professional name, Manny MUA. As his popularity grew and number of makeup collaborations increased, he launched his own makeup brand, Lunar Beauty, in 2018. Lunar Beauty fosters a community where customers can be whoever they want to be and champions inclusivity.

Who: Manuel Gutierrez, aka Manny MUA (Lunar Beauty)

Platforms: YouTube, Instagram

What’s the brand: Makeup

Find it:  Lunar Beauty

What are you known for & how did you get your start?
I’m known for being one of the first male beauty gurus, which really took off when I became the first male face of Maybelline in 2017.

Why did you decide to bring a brand into this crowded marketplace?
I believe that there is room for everyone in any space. For me, it’s about not seeing things that I wanted to see in the marketplace. I created Lunar Beauty to create things that are my aesthetic and visually pleasing to me, that I haven’t experienced or seen elsewhere.

What makes the brand different?
We are an indie, Latinx family-owned business with a small, but very strong and mighty team who pour our sweat and tears into the brand and every product. I have conceptualized and tested every single product we’ve ever made, from start to finish.

Best seller: Moon Prism Brush Palette
