Summer means new SPF — one brand we’re highlighting this month is devoted to sun care, while another debuted with just one product, an SPF. Meanwhile, any time of the year means new celebrity brands. This month, we were introduced to Hailey Bieber’s Rhode and Kim Kardashian’s SKKN by Kim, two long-awaited debuts. Below, learn more about each of the brands we have our eye on.
Rhode
Regardless of how you feel about celebrity brand launches, it’s hard to deny just how highly anticipated Hailey — middle name: Rhode — Bieber’s was. It finally launched on June 15 with just three products: a serum (the Peptide Glazing Fluid, $29), a moisturizer (the Barrier Restore Cream, $29) and a lip balm (the Peptide Lip Treatment, $16), the latter of which launched in an unscented flavor as well as watermelon and salted caramel. Bieber enlisted true skin-care experts to consult on the line. That included cosmetic chemist Ron Robinson, who’s also the founder of Beautystat, and dermatologist Dr. Dhaval G. Bhanusali. Though the brand’s been met with much fanfare, shortly after its launch, the fashion brand Rhode announced it is suing Bieber over the name of the brand. Bieber’s brand is available DTC on rhodeskin.com, though all products are currently sold out. On launch day, Bieber also sold products via an Instagram Live.
Dune
It’s June, which means ’tis the season for new sunscreen launches and even new sunscreen brands. The latest cool kid on the block is Dune, which will surely show up in the backgrounds of your coolest friends’ Instagrams this summer. That’s because it’s the brainchild of DJ and model Mei (May) Kwok (26,000 Instagram followers) and Emily Doyle, a longtime marketing executive. The brand launched with three products, an SPF for body ($24.95), an SPF for face ($27.95) and a post-sun aloe gel ($22.95). Dune’s formulas are not mineral, so there are no concerns about that dreaded white cast. And both body and face formulas are gels, so they rub and blend in super smoothly. For now, the products are available on dunesuncare.com.
Skkn by Kim
Kim Kardashian’s re-entry into the beauty space — farewell, KKW Beauty and KKW Fragrance — made its debut on June 21. Made up of nine skin-care products, created in partnership with Coty and celebrity esthetician Joanna Czech, SKKN by Kim’s full line will set you back $575. Enough fans didn’t mind the price, though, as sets of the complete collection sold out on launch day. The collection includes a cleanser, a toner, an exfoliator, a hyaluronic acid serum, a vitamin C serum, a face cream, an eye cream, and two oils, all of which can be bought separately. Individually, prices range from $43-$95, and the brand is sold on skknbykim.com.
Relevant
Nyakio Grieco has already made a name for herself in beauty, both with her namesake brand, Nyakio, and with Thirteen Lune, an online marketplace designed to feature a diverse array of founder-led brands. Now, she’s introducing Relevant: Your Skin Seen, a new brand that launched with just a sunscreen. The One & Done Everyday Cream with SPF 40 is a mineral sunscreen meant to replace pretty much an entire morning skin-care routine. The brand claims it does the work of a serum, a moisturizer, a primer and, of course, SPF. In addition to zinc and titanium dioxide, the formula includes skin-care ingredients like niacinamide, plum oil, sea buckthorn and green tea. It’s $38 and will be available online at relevantskin.com, thirteenlune.com, Thirteen Lune shop-in-shops at some JCPenney locations and JCPenney.com.
