Earth Month may be over, but eco-friendly and sustainable shopping is here to stay.
According to March data from Capital One shopping, nearly 180 million U.S. adults consider themselves to be eco-friendly shoppers, up 7.4% from last year. The data also revealed that 80% of global shoppers are willing to pay more for eco-friendly products.
Likewise, according to the AI-powered global payments provider and shopping service Klarna, consumers are purchasing more “trend-immune” items to help alleviate wasteful wardrobe churn over time. Aligned with Earth Day in April, Klarna released its Untrend Report, featuring the top items shoppers have purchased and have not had to buy again. Products like the popular Veja Campo sneakers, Levi’s Original Trucker Jacket and the Asket classic T-shirt were featured on the list. All products on the list are shoppable via Klarna’s Pay in 4 feature.
To identify the top items, Klarna, which has over 150 million global active users who complete 2.5 million transactions per day, pulled its data from the top 10,000 best-selling products across all shopping categories over the last five years. The company also worked with ethical fashion company Good On You to ensure all featured items had a rating of four or higher in its Planet category, which rates brands’ commitment to environmentally friendly practices.
Since launching the report on its shopping platform and promoting it on Instagram, Klarna has seen a 2.25% increase in sales of the featured products, said Sara Davidson, sustainability brand lead at Klarna.
