Fashion can be fickle. What’s trendy one year is very likely to be passé the next.

In addition to 2017’s continued digital innovation — which built upon advancements from the previous year in areas like virtual reality, social media platforms and in-store tech — the fashion industry used its clout to make social statements and challenge cultural norms. At the same time, companies expanded their reach by evolving into “lifestyle” brands and the resale and subscription markets took off, ushering in a new era of how consumers shop. And perhaps the biggest lesson learned? Don’t sleep on streetwear.

With all these things in mind, here’s our second annual guide to what’s in and out in the fashion industry for 2018.
