This profile is part of the Glossy Pop Guide to Influencer-Founded Brands, covering the fashion, beauty and wellness companies started by people who built their careers on social media.  More from the series →

Though Hyram Yarbro is one of TikTok’s most well-known skin-care personalities, he actually started out by making YouTube videos, in 2017. Yarbro’s purpose for creating his account was to make ingredients and product knowledge more accessible so that people could make better skin-care purchasing decisions. When he crossed over to Tiktok in May 2020, his following boomed; he gained nearly 6 million followers in four months. In June 2021, with The Inkey List, Yarbro brought his brand Selfless By Hyram to market. The brand sells high-quality and affordable skin care, while also allowing its consumers to participate in social change. A portion of every product purchase is donated to environmental conservation and social wellness organizations; Rainforest Trust and Thirst Project are Selfless partners.

Who: Hyram Yarbro (Selfless by Hyram)

Platforms: TikTok, Instagram, YouTube

What’s the brand: Skin care

Find it: Sephora.com, in-store at Sephora and on selflessbyhyram.com.

What are you known for & how did you get your start?
I started creating skin-care videos on YouTube in an effort to simplify ingredient and product knowledge, in order to help people make better purchasing decisions. Interest in skin care exploded during the pandemic, and I created content revolving around affordable product recommendations, how-tos and ingredient knowledge across TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.

Why did you decide to bring a brand into this crowded marketplace?
I wanted to create an opportunity for consumers to connect their purchasing power with social change. I felt that creating powerfully effective products that make an impact on two of the most pressing issues of our time — climate change and access to clean drinking water — was the most impactful way to push the industry in a better direction and provide people with the formulas they’ve always been looking for.

What makes the brand different?
Each product was developed utilizing insight from what my viewers did or didn’t want in a product. Every formula prioritizes skin health, and every purchase either protects forests from deforestation through our partnership with Rainforest Trust or provides one person with a year’s worth of clean drinking water through our partnership with Thirst Project. This brand was made for anyone who wants to change their skin and the world for the better.

Best seller: Retinol & Rainbow Algae Repair Serum
