Brands are under pressure to grow profitably, and some are discovering they’re paying affiliate partners for customers they’d already won.
That’s exactly what online fashion outlet Otrium found: affiliates were bidding on its own brand name in search ads across seven European markets, with ads closely mimicking Otrium’s official messaging — making the violations almost impossible to catch through manual checks alone.
Through an audit, nearly 5,000 suspicious transactions were rejected, preventing €40,842 in commission leakage. As brands and retailers like Otrium prioritize profitable growth over top-line sales, independent measurement, traffic quality and attribution are becoming strategic priorities.
