Gen Z and teen shoppers are paying more attention than ever to what goes into their beauty products — but there’s still a disconnect between teens’ desire to purchase clean beauty products and how much they actually know about clean beauty. In a national survey of 250 females ages 13-19, more than 80% said they’ve heard of clean beauty, but only a quarter are “very” or “extremely” familiar with it.
In other words, teens are drawn to clean beauty, but many are unsure about what clean beauty really means and are unable to differentiate between true information and marketing claims.
For clean beauty brands hoping to earn the trust of these teen shoppers, transparency and education will matter as much as trendiness and packaging. Helping teens understand what “clean” really means — and showing them why it matters — may be just as important as offering the product itself.
